I try to do something a little different each week. Learning something new about my camera along the way.
I have always liked these type of shots and wanted to give it a shot :). I read a couple articles on web on how to do this, but with a 5 year old running around, building a rig for it would be an impossible task. So the next best thing was to set a slow drip on my kitchen faucet into a red wine glass and viola!
These are not great, but I think they are worth the effort.
Keys:
Manual focus – I used a ruler to focus on where the drop would land
an external flash – you will need a lot of light
empty memory card – you will be deleting a lot of missed shots
timing – luck or skill…..it is your call.
I hope to improve the results next time…..but for now I am pleased.
Thx for listening…

Take an object you see every day. In this case, it is my egg timer from the stove. Look at it in a different way. A 100mm Macro lens will help. The results can be amazing.
I seems that the 100mm spends more time on my camera than any other lens.
I think that B&W helped here.
Let me know what you think.

Focus Stacking March 21, 2012

This is my first attempt focus stacking. This is the technique of taking many photos with different focal points and merging them into a single detailed image. My 100mm lens has a very short DoF, so I took 6 photos manually focusing on different areas of the flower. I then used the CS5 to merge the images into a composite photo with this impossible depth of field. I must say it is not perfect, but I have to say that I am pretty happy with result.
More tweaking required…..
