We got to Haliburton this year to discover the old girl got a lovely new coat of paint!

She looks very proud in her shiny new coat. I hope it lasts a while before someone has to come along and deface it with scratches and paint bombs.

Kudos to the restoration crew….

William was very impressed……

This is a little science experiment we bought for William at Mastermind. Take this little bead and soak it in water for an hour or 2….and viola!

Amazing……let it dry out and ……small again.

Water absorbing polymers.

Meet JC. He is a lovely huge lab. He is getting older and slowing down a lot. He still swims in that lake and fetches sticks, but maybe not as energetic as in previous years.

This one is for you, JC. You are a awesome friend to my 5 year old, William.

After a swim, just warming your old bones in the sun is a very good thing.

cheers old boy.

The joy of having a good polarizing filter. I held back because of the expense of it, but when they were on sale at Henry’s I jumped in. I bought one for all my lenses.

The results are very impressive, I am kicking myself for waiting so long. This shot was taken with the noon sun overhead.

Simply worth their weight is gold….really.

This is 16 images….carefully focused manually.

It fakes such a deep DoF.

Thoughts?

This is my first attempt focus stacking. This is the technique of taking many photos with different focal points and merging them into a single detailed image. My 100mm lens has a very short DoF, so I took 6 photos manually focusing on different areas of the flower. I then used the CS5 to merge the images into a composite photo with this impossible depth of field. I must say it is not perfect, but I have to say that I am pretty happy with result.

More tweaking required…..

Every time it snows I run out to snap a few flakes. This is tricky and cold work.

It is that time of year again.

Simple, simple trick….Camera, tripod…remote shutter release, and turn out the lights. Set exposure to 13 seconds, release and slowly zoom in for the final 5 seconds of the exposure….and you get a treat!

I have to thank my lovely wife for the carving,  the pumkins get scarier every year.

Happy and Safe Halloween,

I was walking up from the lake to the cottage and Nikita was was lounging on the deck. She seemed so comfortable there. I thnk this is her favorite place to be. I totally agree.

This is one of my best shots of her.

What do you get when you cross a long exposure and a guy with a pen light, and dock on a quiet lake? You draw a fisherman.
